5th grade math Unit #8
Unit 8
8.1
In order to communicate measurements you have to have a standard way to communicate how long someting is that everyone understands. There are two main systems for measurement: the metric system, or the imperial or standard system.
The Metric System is amazing because it is all based on the idea of 10s!
One way to remember the order of the metric units for length, is to use this acranym.
King Henry Died Usually Drinking Chocolate Milk
If you take the first letter of each of the words it will spell out the order of the metric system units for length.
K = Kilometer
H = Hectometer
D = Deckameter
U = Unit (Meter)
D = Decimeter
C = Centimeter
M = Milimeter
You always have to make sure that the units are the same before you solve anything!
15 m = ____________ mm 0.36 km = _____ m
2040 mm = _________m 9.2 m = ______cm
